History
Browne Creative Enterprises is a family-managed company that oversees the production of the iconic comic strips "Hägar the Horrible" (since 1973) and "Hi and Lois" (since 1954), both distributed by King Features Syndicate.
The company was founded in 1976 by cartoonist Dik Browne (1917–1989) and his wife Joan Kelly (1921–1986), with their children joining them to run the business as a family.
Dik created "Hi and Lois" and “Hägar the Horrible” before passing his artistic mantle to his sons, Chris Browne (1952–2023) and Robert “Chance” Browne (1948–2024). Dik, Chris and Chance were all talented and creative illustrators and painters who expanded the family’s artistic legacy worldwide. Their sister Sally helped expand Browne Creative’s reach by establishing a global network for licensing agreements.
Today, Browne Creative Enterprises remains true to its roots, fostering creativity, humor, and innovation in honor of Dik Browne's legacy. The business is currently led by Sally and her husband, Rico Boeras; Chance’s wife, Debra; and Chance and Debra’s children, Rachel, Robin, and Zoë Browne.
